Abbotts Unconstitutional Mandates

I speak to a LOT of people.

One of the things I share is that Governor Greg Abbott violated the Texas Constitution, his oath and our rights.

The most common argument I hear amounts to “no he didn't.”

Perhaps I should carry a copy of the Texas Constitution with me but that’s heavy.

In an attempt to avoid this exchange in the future I am writing this 10-part article to explain in more detail that, “Yes he did.”

Governor Abbott’s Oath

To start with, here is the Oath of office Greg Abbott took when he became our public SERVANT.

“I, Greg Abbott, do solemnly swear, that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of governor of the state of Texas, and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States and of this state, so help me GOD.”

Notice he swore to protect these things in a certain order.

1. The U.S. constitution comes first, if there is a conflict between that and law, the first one wins.
2. Federal law is next and over rules the state constitution.
3. Next in order is the Texas Constitution, Texas law and the State Constitution wins all battles between them.

He swore this oath, not just to us but to GOD.

Freedom of Worship - Article 1, Section 6

Let's take a look at the State Constitution.

Sec. 6. FREEDOM OF WORSHIP. All men have a natural and indefeasible right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences. No man shall be compelled to attend, erect or support any place of worship, or to maintain any ministry against his consent. No human authority ought, in any case whatever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion, and no preference shall ever be given by law to any religious society or mode of worship. But it shall be the duty of the Legislature to pass such laws as may be necessary to protect equally every religious denomination in the peaceable enjoyment of its own mode of public worship.

“Reduced capacity” means this, a church that was crowded the Sunday before the mandate had to turn away worshippers the Sunday after.

I never thought I would live to see the day when churches were closed in the United States by the Government.

For them to be closed, in Texas, by a Republican that I voted for is infuriating to me.

I cried that day. 

It might have kept someone alive a little longer, eventually we all die.  

How many did it prevent from being saved?

Did Abbott’s mandates close churches and reduce capacity? 

While we are at it, read that last line and ask yourself, did your state representative and state senator do their duty and defend that right?

If not, they have broken their oath and should never be entrusted to guard them again, at any level.

Reach out to your Leadership

Call or write and ask your Texas State Legislators.

Ask them, why they did nothing when Abbott, like Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Castro before him, shut down churches.

Most will lie to you.

They will tell you there was NOTHING they could have done as they were not in session.

At that point ask them “why not invoke 665, the law that allows them to call a special session to consider impeachment?” 

The very threat of that would have opened our churches.

At this point they will do one of two things.

1. They might tell you they knew nothing about rule 665.
2. They might tell you why impeachment was just not an option and they know all about rule 665.

Understanding Their Response

In the first instance they’re admitting they did not know, nor bother to learn, about the one thing that would have protected your rights and our state constitution.

If they choose the second option, they're admitting they lied when they said, “nothing” they could have been done.

1. In the first option they admit they were incompetent.
2. In the second they are admitting they JUST lied to you, they knew how to stop Abbott and CHOSE not to uphold their oath.

A Few Good People in Austin

There are a few good people in Austin but notice BOTH parties seem more loyal to Abbott than to us? 

Why is that?

If I were advising state reps, especially “Republican,” I would tell them to go with option one.

• “I was ignorant” is not a great slogan but it beats “I refused to protect you, uphold my oath and lied to you because I thought you didn't know about 665.”
